Aave V3 Interest Rate Curve Changes
01Summary
Proposal to adjust interest rate curve parameters across Aave V3 markets on multiple chains to mitigate 100% utilization risk and build protocol reserves. Changes will be implemented via three separate payload executions coordinated by BGD Labs and Gauntlet, with Avalanche market changes handled separately due to AIP limitations.
- Type
- parameter change
Key changes
- Adjustment of interest rate curves for select assets on Aave V3 markets to prevent 100% utilization scenarios(high)
- Parameter modifications designed to build protocol reserves through increased revenue to cover insolvencies and expenses(high)
- Implementation of changes across multiple markets with separate Avalanche market payload due to AIP technical limitations(medium)
Notable concerns
- Avalanche market changes require separate proposal/payload implementation
- Specific parameter values and affected assets not detailed in proposal description

02Description
Summary
A proposal to make parameter changes on Aave V3 markets.
For full details, refer to the forum post.
Abstract
Given the significant shifts in crypto markets, Gauntlet’s platform has evaluated all assets on Aave V3 and has identified opportunities to adjust parameters for certain assets for the benefit of the protocol.
Motivation
Among other factors, there are two primary reasons to adjust an interest rate curve:
- mitigate the risk of 100% utilization in a pool
- build reserves via protocol revenue to cover insolvencies or other expenses in the future
Specification
BGD Labs, in collaboration with Gauntlet, prepared the proposal payload. We appreciate BGD's support throughout this proposal process.
Should this AIP pass, we will implement the Avalanche market changes from a separate payload because AIPs currently do not support Avalanche changes.

03Mismatch analysis
The proposal description is a high-level narrative describing Gauntlet's interest rate curve recommendations across Aave V3 markets, and references a forum post for granular parameter details rather than listing specific values in the on-chain description itself. The decoded calldata consists of three execute(address) calls routed through what appear to be Aave governance executor contracts, each delegating to a separate payload contract address. This pattern is standard for Aave cross-market/cross-chain governance proposals, where the actual interest-rate-curve parameter changes are encoded inside the target payload contracts (not visible in this top-level calldata). Because the description does not state specific numeric parameters (rates, slopes, utilization thresholds) and the calldata does not expose the underlying parameter changes either (they are abstracted behind payload contract addresses), a substantive line-by-line comparison of values is not possible from the data provided. The number of actions (3) is plausible given multiple market/network payloads, consistent with the description's mention of multiple markets and a separate Avalanche payload. No target mismatches, extra actions, or omitted high-level actions are apparent given what can be verified. Given the inability to verify specific parameter values against the vague description, confidence in this assessment is low, but nothing in the visible data suggests inconsistency with the description's claims.

- [ARC] Gauntlet Interest Rate Curve Changes for Aave V3 Markets (Feb 2023) ↗discourse · high confidence
Arguments for
- High utilization rates pose risks to suppliers' ability to withdraw assets and to liquidators' ability to seize collateral, making interest rate curve adjustments necessary to incentivize repayment and deposits.— Pauljlei
- Stablecoins with lower liquidity and market cap (MAI, FRAX, EURS, agEUR) have experienced prolonged utilization spikes and concentration risk, justifying migration to safer interest rate parameters.— Pauljlei
- USDT has experienced frequent utilization spikes above 95% that take over 12 hours to resolve, and recent USDC volatility events reinforce the need for more conservative rate parameters.— Pauljlei
- GHST and DPI suppliers exhibit inelasticity to interest rate changes, presenting an opportunity to increase reserve factors and protocol revenue without materially reducing supply.— Pauljlei
- Consistency in WETH interest rate curves across Aave V3 markets reduces governance complexity and aligns with existing Ethereum mainnet parameters.— Pauljlei
Arguments against
None surfaced.
Unresolved concerns
- Whether WETH interest rate changes should also be applied to Aave V2 markets (Polygon, Avalanche, Arbitrum) or only V3 as proposed.— Llamaxyz
